Record-Setting Big Boats

Clay has been an integral part of many big boat designs and record-setters, several of which were built to his lines. In each case the boat was geared towards a specific goal.  For example, Mari Cha IV was oriented to ocean record setting, and with emphasis on one particular Transatlantic Record, which it held for 13 years.  Mari Cha IV is a good example of a collaborative design team effort with Greg Elliott and Philippe Briande.  The 90-foot Genuine Risk was a collaborative effort with Ed Dubois and Malcolm McKeon.  It’s original brief was for round-the-buoy and special racing like Chicago-Mackinac (won) and then winning in Newport-Bermuda as well as a number of other races.  The 100-ft Maximus, with Greg Elliott has numerous line honours, such as Sydney-Hobart.
