Interactive time domain simulation in waves for foiling power craft

Hydrofoil Power Craft

Recent projects (2016-2017) for foiling powerboats require design and analysis using Clay's unique proprietary methods and computational tools.  These provide efficient and accurate steady-state solutions in smooth water for configuration design and behaviour including speed, power, cavitation, ventilation, classic dynamical control and stability.

In addition to smooth water performance, several methods evaluate performance in waves using both a regular wave “computational towing tank” method for both contouring and platforming modes.  Simulation of motions and manoeuvring in a multi-directional irregular seaway is another technique, with an option to involve the user-operator controlling the helm and throttle, with the help of foils control systems, such as the classic PID controller.
