Foils on Monohull Yachts

From IMOCA 60, to DSS or a variety of novel foil configurations, Clay helps teams, designers and owners to conceive, develop, problem-solve and optimise their foils.  He has developed new methods to predict performance for an arbitrary foil shape and configuration to determine the performance potential of retro-fitting a foil system, as well as methods for investigating loads and root bending moments, and the total effect on the heeling moment that is critical to treating the mast and rigging loads.  Strip methods, lifting line, and VLM can set the ball rolling before considering full-fledged CFD work if desired.

Beginning in 2014, Clay helped Alan Thompson Racing and Hugo Boss in a number of areas from hull sizing,  comparative foil candidate analysis through to the start of the Vendee Globe with performance, loads and problem-solving.
