Computational Fluid Dynamics

Clay was the original author, along with John Letcher, of the Ship Lift and Wave Free Surface Potential flow panel code (SLAW) developed at SAIC, Annapolis, in 1987. Clay developed and coded the Advanced Ship Motion and Load program for the Ship Structure Committee in 1980.  This intimate knowledge of the hydrodynamics and computer coding has made it possible to address and solve a variety of yacht design and naval architectural problems. Now over 35 years later, Clay works closely with Cape Horn Engineering to apply computational fluid dynamics to create performance models, analysis of foils, analysis of sails and aerodynamics.  Most recently Clay has been applying CFD to new foil-supported monohulls.
