Around-the-World Projects
Clay has been involved in numerous ocean racing projects, with experience that spans over 25 years and includes the iconic Whitbread Round-the-World to Single Handed IMOCA 60 Vendee-Globe and successors, from the old IOR MkIII Maxi boats like Steinlager II, New Zealand Endeavour; Whitbread 60’s like Yamaha and Tokio; or more recently Ecover III, Aviva, Acciona, and Hugo Boss. In different teams and design collaborations, inlcluding Owen-Clarke Design, Alex Thompson Racing and Farr Yacht Design, Clay has provided expertise in areas from hull lines, to tank testing, performance prediction, race modeling and more.
With a fast boat and fast foils, after 74 days, 19 hours and 35 minutes at sea, British sailor Alex Thomson reached the finish line of the Vendée Globe HUGO BOSS 20th January 2017, finishing second place. Above, testing in the Solent.
